The Family: A Proclamation to the World Memorization Project for Personal Progress

As we were frequently reminded this past General Conference, especially in the Women’s session, This year marks twenty years of The Family: a Proclamation to the World. It was read September 23rd, 1995 at the General Relief Society Meeting, and since then it has hugely influenced the members of this church in countless ways.

Several years ago my family memorized the entire document, and having such a powerful message driven into me has definitely been a benefit to my life, though I must say I’ve grown rather fuzzy as of late.

I’ve challenged myself to re-memorize the proclamation by September 23rd, 2015. I loved the challenge last year to memorize The Living Christ before Christmas, so I’m excited to attempt this. As a resource I have really simple cards with all but the first letter removed from each word. The way I broke them up is a little weird, grouping paragraphs 4 & 5 together, and splitting 7 in half, but this way the number of words is more evenly distributed and the project as a whole is less daunting. I also counted the Sundays until September 23rd (a Wednesday), and split the project into 10 weeks (which leaves paragraphs 4 & 5 separated, but if you kept them grouped together, then you’d have an extra week in case you fall behind!)

Of course, this would be a perfect value project. I’d  group it under Divine Nature or Integrity, but it could fit under any value depending on the emphasis while you study.

As always, I have printables! All the files are PDF. The memorization cards fit two to a page. The schedule with dates also includes the full text so you can keep track and cross things off as you go. And then there’s the pretty copy, which is great to print and keep on your wall, or use as you study. All these files come in one .zip folder.
