I have not been consistent in the past few months of creating Come, Follow Me handouts, but I’m changing that (and next year: watch out!). The topic of self-reliance seems sort of out of place with such BIG doctrinal topics, but as I’ve studied it more, it makes so much sense to include it in the curriculum because it’s all about APPLYING the doctrine to ourselves.
I don’t have handouts for every lesson topic this month because I’ve had a lot of other projects to work on, but I do have resources galore for the topic which I got to teach to the Laurels this month, which is “Why is it important for me to gain an education and develop skills?”
To be completely honest, I didn’t use ANY of the resources suggested in the lesson plan, even though I loved them all. I just followed the Spirit, and I’m super happy where it led me! My lesson focused a lot on the Plan of Salvation and following the Spirit, and how Personal Progress is a tool we can use to develop skills.
I personally also felt that the Laurels had been deprived of handouts lately, so I have quite a few handouts prepared, using some of my favorite quotes!
First off is President Hinckley’s well-known quote about women needing an education. Instead of just the first paragraph which is more frequently quoted, I really like the rest of his statement so included it all on the handout, which is a half-sheet.
Next I have a quote from one of my favorite talks by President Uchtdorf that talks about how we all have talents and thinking out of the box in discovering your talents.
This is probably one of my favorite quotes ever, so I’m really surprised at myself for not making a handout with it yet! THIS is the reason why I love Personal Progress. This explains the power of it so plainly and precisely.
This last handout is a worksheet for Individual Worth #4. In putting this together, I flipped through my journal from when I was 12, and it’s really cool to see which goals stayed the same and which have changed. Even if most of the young women completed this a while ago, it’s a cool way to evaluate where you are in achieving your goals.
All of these tools could also be really great for a mutual activity to follow up about this lesson and focus on Personal Progress!
All the files are in PDF form and come in a .zip file. Download here!
I would love to receive notification of new posts by email. Thank you for sharing your gifts and talents!!
