Isn’t the plan of salvation just the best?
I teach primary right now, and I’ve been so excited to teach the plan of salvation in 1 Corinthians 15 (which is next week: September 2-8)! This is where Paul lays down basically the entire plan of salvation: the fall and atonement, life after death, the need for temple work, resurrection and judgement, and the three kingdoms of glory.
For a long time, I’ve been pretty confident in my understanding of the plan of salvation. But on my mission in Houston, my trainer blew my mind by showing me how to teach the plan of happiness with this illustration.
It starts out essentially like any traditional illustration you’ve seen, but piece by piece it starts painting a bigger picture. As you spell out the word “LOVE,” the demonstration of God’s love becomes a little clearer. I absolutely adore Elder Uchtdorf’s quote from his April 2010 General Conference talk that sums this up perfectly:
Love is the grand motive of the plan of salvation.
Dieter F. Uchtdorf
We would use this illustration everywhere! In seminary classes, investigator lessons, chalk drawings in parks, white boards on campuses. Every time, it was something that caught people’s attentions.
This was especially helpful when teaching kids! It can be kind of hard to follow along, especially when it’s your first time learning about God’s plan. But seeing it laid out this way made it easy to remember quickly.
I have a super quick and easy to print packet with all the tools you need to use to teach the plan of salvation this way. Cutouts, a page with coordinating scriptures, a quote page, and (drumroll please…) a coloring page! This coloring page is great because not only does it spell it all out, but it has illustrations that complement the concepts taught in the plan of happiness.
These tools are specifically geared toward Young Women and Young Men, but you could totally pull these off in primary or relief society and elders quorum. That’s the great thing about the plan: everybody can comprehend it, and there’s always more for us to learn.
You can find the packet over here in the store or on Etsy!
