This month the Come Follow Me topic is Priesthood and Priesthood Keys! The first year Come Follow Me was introduced I didn’t really gain a lot from the lessons, and didn’t really bother to study priesthood and how it pertained to my life, but since then I’ve been hugely blessed with a great understanding and appreciation of the priesthood. I’ve noticed that quite a few young women are still at the phase I was at initially, where the idea of the priesthood doesn’t quite make sense to them. I’ve made a handful of handouts, and I intend to make more shortly, but I realized the month is already quite a ways in, and better late than never. The first one really explains what the priesthood is and makes the distinction between priesthood keys, authority, and power. Next I made one to display the paralleled equal importance of motherhood and fatherhood, and womanhood and priesthood. For some time I was bothered with the idea that motherhood was equal to priesthood, because there is seemingly some inequality at first glance, but look at it from this perspective definitely helps me view the role of both in Heavenly Father’s plan differently. This handout is an adaptation of Divine Nature #2, because I felt that adding a paralleled study of priesthood with motherhood could definitely help young women understand how the two work together. It could also theoretically be done as a personalized additional experience. Next are two of my favorite quotes from Elder Oaks talk “The Keys and Authority of the Priesthood,” which is cited in several Come Follow Me lessons for both Young Women and Sunday School (and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also in the Aaronic Priesthood lessons!), which explains the role of women and the priesthood so beautifully! Last of all I have a beautiful quote from former Relief Society president Julie B. Beck which so eloquently talks about the priesthood duty of sisters. Because I’ve noticed that the most popular format for handouts is a high-quality 4×6 jpg, these are all only available in that format in one .zip file to download here. However, due to the high quality, they could be scaled up or down, to 5×7 or 4.25×5.5(quarter sheet) without a significant difference in quality. My ultimate goal with all of these is to empower young women with a knowledge of priesthood power and how they can access and utilize it in their lives.
